Master Geomatics

Course Details

Objectives : The field of geomatics comprises geographic information science and cartography, geodesy and navigation, cadastral and land surveying, engineering geodesy and geomonitoring, remote sensing and photogrammetry. Society needs experts in each of these areas but it also needs engineers with abilities in several of them for interdisciplinary collaboration with other trades and disciplines.

The Master's programme in Geomatics is a course- and project-based, full-time study programme with a wide range of opportunities for hands-on experience and individual specialisation. It comprises research-oriented work through projects, seminars and the Master's thesis under the supervision of PhD students, postdocs and professors.

Public concerned : Students

Degree Level (EU) : 7 - (EQC level or equivalent)

Prerequisites : Bachelor's degree in geospatial engineering or a related field such as geomatics, geodesy, or surveying and geoinformation

Acquired skills during the training : The Master's programme enables students to broaden and deepen their expertise in geospatial data acquisition, data analysis and visualisation through various electives and a tutorial system.  

Additionally, vital transferable skills such as teamwork, critical thinking, problem solving, communication and scientific working are fostered through projects, lab work and courses which expose students to cutting-edge scientific research and advanced methods, as well as to real-world situations and case studies.

Targeted careers : The strength and reputation of the ETH geomatic engineering groups’ research attract collaboration with businesses and industries from around the world. The students enjoy the opportunity to get connected with the private sector and interact with potential employers.
